Preparing for Your Visit

At Geneseo Veterinary Care, we strive to make every visit as stress-free and comfortable as possible for both you and your pet. To help us provide the best experience, here are a few things to know before your appointment.

Separate Entrances

To reduce stress and ensure a smoother visit, we offer separate entrances:

Dogs: Please use the entrance at the far end of the building, labeled Dog Entrance, which includes a wheelchair accessible ramp.

Cats & Exotics: Please use the entrance labeled Cats & Exotics Entrance, accessible by staircase.

This setup helps minimize anxiety and overstimulation, especially for our more sensitive patients.

Fear-Free Certified Care

Dr. Lauren Wisser is Fear-Free Certified, meaning she uses proven techniques and thoughtful handling to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress. From the moment you arrive, we prioritize your pet's emotional well-being. Treats, gentle handling, and a calm environment are all part of the experience.

🐾 What to Expect When You Arrive.

When you arrive for your appointment, please head to the appropriate entrance—either our Dog Entrance or our Cat & Exotic Entrance. This helps us maintain a calm, species-specific environment for all our patients.

Once inside, a team member will greet you and guide you and your pet into a comfortable exam room. Shortly after, one of our skilled technicians or assistants will join you to gather a detailed history, check your pet’s vital signs, and record their temperature and weight. This helps us prepare for a thorough and personalized visit.

Once your pet’s history and vitals have been collected, our technician or assistant will step out to review the information with the doctor. Shortly after, the doctor will join you in the exam room to perform a thorough physical exam and ask any additional questions to better understand your pet’s health and needs.

The doctor will then step out briefly to collaborate with the technician or assistant and finalize care recommendations. From there, the technician or assistant will return with a personalized treatment plan and a detailed estimate, so you can review your options and feel confident about the next steps—both medically and financially.

We look forward to seeing you soon! 🐾

Helpful Tips

Bring favorite treats or toys that your pet finds comforting.

For cats and exotics, cover carriers with a towel to reduce visual stress, and keep the carrier flat and secure during transport.

If your pet is especially nervous and is a current patient, ask us about pre-visit medications or other calming options.

For exotic pets during colder seasons, pre-warm your vehicle and place a warm water bottle or heating pad in their carrier.
